One long day

It is the end of a long day, but since I have not had time to post since noon yesterday I should first tell how yesterday ended.

We spent the afternoon with some shopping in town for food for park day, for building materials for our various projects and for other miscellaneous items. Meanwhile some others worked on some small projects around the base such as building new fences for the goats.

In the evening, many of us had the priviledge of joining Tracey and couple of the other base staff for their weekly trip to a local park to feed the homeless people there. We brought food and set up a table where Ralph gave his testimony. This was an amazing experience serving those in need and meeting them in their environment.

Today was another great day. After breakfast we started the day by joining a group from Texas for worship. This was a terrific time of worship and God's presence was felt in a powerful way.

We then left for a work day in Guarari. It took a few hours to organized to start working during which time we took the opportunity to play with the neighborhood kids - blowing bubbles, skipping jump rope, and playing many games. The six teens from the Heredia church that have joined our team were a blessing as they taught us many games that the kids knew and were able to engage the kids when us English-speaking people couldn't.

Once the work projects started, some continued to play with the kids while others worked on the projects. The two projects are building another wall of the community center and digging a trench which will be filled with rocks for filtering gray water. Despite working a long, hard day we made surprising little progress on these tasks and have much more to do on them during the rest of the week. Pray that we will be able to complete them.

We are heading back to Guarari early tomorrow to try to make more progress on our tasks before the VBS program in the afternoon. Pray that we will still have energy for the kids after a morning of labor. Also pray that the VBS program will go smoothly as we are doing it with a much smaller team than we have in previous years.

And now for some pictures as promised...

  1. Hey Mike! Thanks for taking the time to add posts to the blog. I know it is not easy to do after a long day and in the midstbog a very busy schedule! It is VERY much appreciated though. Especially by those of us back home.

The pictures are great Phill! (or whoever was on the other side of the lens!). Only problem is that looking at the pictures not only brings joy but sadness too that we are not there again this year with our family. :(

We will definitely be praying for all of you. Know it can be a very exhausting schedule! Thank goodness that God is in charge of ALL of it...even the smallest of details! May you know the presence of His Spirit as you go about His work sharing the love of Jesus by being His hands And His feet!

By the way...don't forget to bring Mark home with you! He could easily be mistaken as a Texan and end up with the wrong team! :)

  6. joined together 15 of us yesterday at the Kerr's and lifted you up in prayer. God smiles and acts when we pray and we were praying. Enjoy his smile today and his action on your behalf and that of the folks in Heredia, Guarari and at the Base. Still praying for Fernando's foot to be healed. Say hi to him on Wednesday when you all visit his home.
