Day nine today, and team members are starting to fatigue. Living in community combined with very busy days of serving and giving your all wears on an individual. Sunday was a welcome day of worship, rest and recuperation.
The forty one person CR2010 team descended on the Heredia Church this morning to worship together. We were greeted with a great reception, and were blessed to be involved. Many team members were involved in the service, providing music, testimonials, and a prayer of blessing upon Pastor Jose and the church family. A call for prayer concluded the service with many coming forward for prayers of healing. What a unique and outstanding opportunity to worship together with fellow believers of a different language and culture. We also did our best to arrange a skype call between the SGAC and Heredia services, but we were unable to gain Internet access at the Heredia Church.
Following the service the team boarded the bus and headed to a local mall where the World Cup game was being displayed on a large projection screen. A large crowd had already gathered as the game was already underway. Needless to say, there was standing room only. The Costa Rican community is extremely passionate of the game of soccer, or shall I say football. Spain was the favorite here in Costa Rica, and the celebration was big when the game was over! (think NHL playoffs type of crowd) For those not interested in watching football, there was a bit of time checking out a few of the local shops and their wares. Oh, and there was quite a bit of ice cream consumed by the team!
Perhaps the team consumed the ice cream in order the build up their energy for the soccer – I mean football game that followed at a local indoor soccer pitch. I think the game might have been a bit stacked on one side, with the Heredia Church challenging the YWAM and SGAC group. Kudos to the YWAM/SGAC team though, as the game was not a total blowout. No injuries to report, and everyone had a great time.
This morning, we also said a tearful goodbye to the youth that had joined us from the Heredia Church. They joined us for the time that we were serving in Guarari and in Imas, and they were a tremendous blessing to all whom they served, and they were a tremendous blessing to us! We Pray many blessings on Raphael, Lisseth, Priscilla, and Michelle, and may God continue to use them in powerful ways.
We wrapped up the evening with cake and ice-cream dessert, celebrating the team from the YWAM base and the tremendous service and support they have been for us. We all very much enjoyed the dessert treat!

It was encouraging to see your blog today. We did miss seeing you at church yesterday. Pastor Sam had a great and entertaining message for us and we came away blessed. We are praying for you all and can tell God is filling your "cup" to overflowing. Stay strong and trust in Him. Can't wait to see you and hear your testimonies. Love Max, Linda(Murr,Opa) and Terra, Rebecca, Kendra
ReplyDeleteWhile you all were fatigued on day nine, Kathleen and I were here in Calgary putting Adina (her 92 year old mother) to her final rest. Thank you all for your prayers. SGAC sent flowers and they arrived with a note "From Spruce Growth Alliance Church" ;-)
ReplyDeleteMay the growth experienced by members of the CR2010 team result in some taking Adina's place. She and Gordon lived 40 years in Indonesia and Adina spent an additional 20 years in her retirement working, praying and loving in order to reach the nations!
We had a wonderful home going service. Kathleen delivered a very fitting tribute to her mom on behalf of the family.
Celine and Michael sang Sufan Steven's arrangement of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" at the memorial service. Michael played piano and Celine guitar.
We love you and are excited about God's work in your lives. Thanks for your sharing this difficult part of our journey!
See you Friday night at YEG!
Dale on behalf of Kathleen too
